It’s important to stay organized and efficient when designing your wrap. An unorganized wrap will bog up valuable memory and slow you down when you navigate the design.
You can mock up the design of your wrap by using layer masks. This helps to hide all of the extra artwork that bleeds off of the edge of the car.
You can accomplish this by copying the main body of the car to a new art layer underneath the template. Remove the fill from the template layer and lock it to make sure it stays out of the way. In the example, I’ve named my layers Template and Art.
Insert your artwork into the “ART” layer behind the copy of vehicle outline. In order for the mask to work, the artwork has to behind whatever you’re using to mask it. Select both of the objects and go to Object>Clipping Mask>Make.
An easy way to add to or edit the clipping mask is to right click and go to “Isolate selected clipping mask”.
The example shows “Before” on the top and “After” below.
