After Stacy Lewis was ruled out with a back injury, team USA have been forced into a late change.
After aggravating her problem during training on Monday afternoon, has been substituted by Ally McDonald.
The 34-year-old had been needing treatment for the accident after it warms up during the Cambia Portland Classic and, although she was passed fit to take her position on the group, the ailment returned on the opening day of clinic.
While being consoled by Inkster and a number of her team-mates lewis, who was put to create her fifth Solheim Cup appearance, has been seen in tears, and she will remain at Gleneagles to encourage her group in the sidelines.
“Stacy is one of the fiercest competitors I have ever met. I am aware this was a remarkably difficult choice for her, however she also has the group’s best interests at heart,” said Inkster.
“Stacy will stay with Team USA over the next week and will still be an unbelievable asset to our team. But when I needed to opt for an alternate, I understood Ally will be able to measure up to the battle. She’s got a mind but a fervent spirit. I know she’ll bring her very best to Team USA.”
A psychological Lewis added:”I’m extremely disappointed not to have the ability to playwith. I am a competitor and I want to play, however I had a back injury flare up past week. I have done everything I could do over the week with.
“For my health and that which I believe is in the best interest of the group, I decided to take out myself. I will take a different job with the group and will do anything I could to assist Team USA bring the Cup home”
McDonald had been on standby at Gleneagles because the alternative, and she will now become the first time Solheim Cup rookie on the team that was visiting.
“I did not want to create the team in this manner, however if Juli told me exactly what was happening with Stacy, I was ready to step right into role, if this was here and being part of the experience or being prepared to tee it up,” explained McDonald.
“It was just mentally preparing for either scenario. I am obviously very excited to play. This is a goal of mine to play this team.”
The change is similar to that of Europe in the contest two decades ago, when when Suzann Pettersen was ruled out having a issue, vice-captain Catriona Matthew had to step in as a participant.
